About the Destination

Baku — The Land of Fire

Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is one of the world's most fascinating and rapidly evolving cities — a place where centuries-old medieval architecture stands in dramatic contrast against gleaming glass skyscrapers. Perched on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, Baku's Old City (Icherisheher) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has witnessed civilisations for over 5,000 years, while the iconic Flame Towers illuminate the night skyline in a hypnotic dance of colour.

Known as the "Land of Fire" for its natural gas seepages that burn eternally from the ground, Azerbaijan is a destination that surprises and delights. From the snow-capped Shahdag mountains in the north to the surreal mud volcanoes of Gobustan and the ancient petroglyphs carved by Bronze Age humans — Baku and its surroundings offer an extraordinary blend of nature, history, modernity and warm Azerbaijani hospitality.
